BAY VIEW ACADEMY STUDENTS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF TRAVEL, ENRICHMENT AND SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES OVER WINTER BREAK

East Providence, RI – Three groups of Bay View Academy students embarked on international tours this winter break: one to Italy, one to France and one to the Dominican Republic. Each tour featured a different type of travel and learning experience. Each year Bay View offers at least four to five opportunities for student travel around the world. Bay View’s young women have visited over 30 different countries through this rich multicultural program. The trip to France this winter break was yet another opportunity for Bay View students to learn about another culture.

The Italian trip is the second half of Bay View’s annual Italian Exchange with a school in Novara, Italy: Liceo Classico e Linguistico Carlo Alberto. In the fall Bay View families welcomed students from Italy into their homes for the first half of the exchange. Students who participate in this exchange must be juniors or seniors who are enrolled in Italian language classes at the Academy. For two weeks in February the Bay View students get to live with host families in Italy, attend school at Liceo Classico e Linguistico Carlo Alberto, travel and be immersed in the Italian culture.

The trip to the Dominican Republic this winter break is a service learning trip in which Bay View students engage in volunteering and mentoring girls at the Mariposa Foundation. This foundation operates on the conviction that girls are “the most powerful force for change,” and seeks to provide community based solutions to end poverty (www.mariposadrfoundation.org).
