East Providence, RI – Bay View Academy students had great success in the recent Rhode Island Model Legislature tryouts for positions with the state leadership team, winning four of the 25 available spots. Participants from high schools around the state vied for these leadership positions at the tryouts, answering questions by a team of five teachers.
Model Legislature is a school club that allows students to act in the roles of legislators. They write legislation that is modeled after legislation written by the Rhode Island General Assembly and prepare to act in the roles of Assembly members. The four student winners from Bay View will assume their roles in the state Model Legislature which will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at the Rhode Island State House.
