Boy, 15, Charged With Stealing Car

East Providence police arrest a boy reported as missing at a playground last week after he allegedly stole a 1999 Mazda earlier in the day.

A 15-year-old East Providence boy faces a charge of stealing a car. 

The boy, of East Shore Circle, was arrested by East Providence police officers last Wednesday, April 3, near the Central Avenue playground at around 7:30 pm. He was sitting in the 1999 Mazda he allegedly stole earlier in the day in East Providence. 

The youth, reported as a missing juvenile, also appeared to police officers to need a physical evaluation. He was reported to be drooling and not able to answer several simple questions asked by officers.

The boy was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for evaluation before being taken back to the police station to be charged with a larceny over $1,500. He also was charged with carrying a concealed weapon – a pocket knife with a blade longer than 3 inches.

The boy was taken to the RI Training School to await his date in Family Court.
