Cats, Quilts and Crimes Collection

Spring Book Sale to Feature Special Collection of Books

The Friends of East Providence Public Library will feature a special collection at the Spring Book Sale in memory of a longtime Board Member, Sharon Dubois, who passed away in the fall. A lover of cats and of suspense, two carts of her books include whimsical novels related to her favorite animals – cats - and favorite hobbies – quilting and crafts. A talented seamstress, Sharon was known for creating seasonal quilted placemats and table runners which she donated as prizes for the Spring and Fall Book Sales. A selection of instructional books on quilt making and quilt pattern books from Sharon’s collection will also be available. Perhaps you purchased one of her hand-crafted market bags which she sewed for the Library’s Farmers Markets or one of hundreds of face masks which she created during the pandemic.

The Cats, Quilts and Crimes Collection contains cat mysteries, including Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter and quilt and craft mysteries, such as Handcrafted Secrets and A Midsummer Night’s Seam. The collection also features tea mysteries, such as Shades of Earl Grey – A Tea Shop Mystery. No gruesome murders will be found here. Rather, you will find ‘gentle’ mysteries, like Death at the Spring Plant Sale and A Murder at the Flower Show, and chocoholic whodunits. Also on sale are Sharon’s books of local interest and novels by Rhode Island authors, many of which are author-signed. Sharon lived right across the street from Weaver Library and was always ready to help with projects at a moment’s notice. She served as Treasurer of the Friends of the Library for many years and greeted attendees at the book sales as cashier throughout the book sale weekends for more than a decade. Stop by at the book sale and purchase a book from her collection to honor her efforts to support East Providence Public Library. Payment at the Book Sale can be made by Venmo, cash or check.
