Jury Indicts Two in Chinese Delivery Robbery

The Statewide Grand Jury reported indictments that charge two men connected to January's . 

Jeremy Schmidt, 20, of 105 Newman Ave., in East Providence, and Malcolm Jones, 21, of Swansea, MA, were charged with one count of first degree robbery, two counts of using a firearm while committing a crime of violence and one count of conspiracy, according to reports from the R.I. Office of the Attorney General.

On Thursday, Jan. 19, a Golden House employee drove to 12 Short St. to deliver the food. Two men at the front of the building told the man to go to the rear, where he was robbed at gunpoint. They took cash, his cell phone and car keys. The men then got into his vehicle, drove it over a median and took off on North Broadway.

Schmitt and two 17-year-olds were arrested after officers traced the cell phone call to Golden House. Police later arrested Jones on Ninth Street.

Jones and Schmidt are being held without bail and are scheduled to be arraigned in Providence County Superior Court before Justice Robert D. Krause on May 2, 2012.
