City to Celebrate American and Portuguese Ancestry
A celebration to recognize American Flag Day and Day of Portugal will be held at city hall on Thursday, June 1, at 11:30 a.m.

Two nations. One day.
Together, the City of East Providence and the Day of Portugal Committee will host a free annual celebration of American Flag Day and Day of Portugal at city hall on Thursday, June 14, at 11:30 a.m.
"The purpose of this celebration is to honor the United States of America and Portugal and to recognize the great spirit of friendship and cooperation which exists between these great nations," reads a press release from the city's administrative offices.

"On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress of the United States officially adopted its flag of stars and stripes, “Old Glory”, which has been a constant symbol of our Country’s independence. On April 25, 1974, the Portuguese Revolution successfully overcame a dictatorship ensuring democracy and Portuguese Independence," according to the release.
The celebration is free and the public is invited to attend. Festivities will include official ceremonies, the raising of the flag of the United States and Portugal, delicious Portuguese cuisine prepared and donated by local establishments.

City Manager Peter Graczykowski and Mayor Bruce Rogers will bring official greetings from the City of East Providence. Congressman David Cicilline will bring greetings from Congress, Senator Daniel DaPonte and Representative Roberto DaSilva will bring greetings and proclamations from the State of Rhode Island. Also, participating in the event are Assistant Mayor Thomas Rose, Mrs. East Providence 2013 Suzette Sousa.
