E.P. Man Charged With Fraud

The East Providence man reportedly promoted a fraudulent concert at White's of Wesport last weekend.

 

An East Providence man has been charged with fraud for promoting a concert in Westport, Mass., featuring a performer who was in Washington, D.C. on the same day, Jan. 19.

Allen Ganeto, 61, of 81 Blanding Ave., has been charged by Westport police with making concert posters and selling tickets for a concert featuring rhythm and blues and jazz singer Will Downing on Jan. 19, according to the Providence Journal. The actual charge is larceny by check and larceny by false pretenses over $250.

Police said Ganeto sold the tickets for $27 and $47. Downing reportedly was performing at the International Inaugural Ball in Washington on the same day.

A few dozen people arrived at White’s of Westport for the concert, according to the Journal story.

Ganeto told police the concert was legitimate, but he couldn’t provide any proof.
