E.P. Police Charge Stabbing Suspect

A Providence man faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon in court today; he allegedly stabbed another Providence man early Sunday after a party in East Providence.

East Providence police have charged a Providence man, 22, with stabbing another Providence man, 21, early last Sunday morning, Jan. 13.

Ray L. Luna, with a last known address of 142 Putnam St., Providence, will be arraigned in 6th District Court today, Jan. 16, on the stabbing charge – assault with a deadly weapon, a knife, according to East Providence Det. Capt. Richard Frazier.

Luna has been held at the Adult Correctional Institution (ACI) on “previous charges,” Frazier said. He reportedly has a lengthy criminal record.

The stabbing took place about 2 am on Bliss Street at Brightridge Avenue, according to police. The assault is believed to have occurred after a party at a home in that area ended with a fight that spilled out onto the street. Numerous people were reportedly involved.

The victim, whom police have not identified, was stabbed in the abdomen. He suffered a non-life threatening injury.

The victim has been released from Rhode Island Hospital, Frazier said.
