East Providence Celebrates Fire Department Promotions

Recently appointed East Providence Fire Chief Glenn J. Quick officially took the mantle during a promotion ceremony on Tuesday.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI – Newly appointed East Providence Fire Chief Glenn J. Quick welcomed 11 members of his department into new positions as part of a promotion ceremony held on Tuesday. Two battalion chiefs, three captains, four lieutenants and the city's first recuse lieutenant were officially sworn in to the new posts.

Quick was also officially promoted into his new position as chief at the ceremony.

"All of you possess the bravery and commitment that it takes to be a member of the fire service," East Providence Mayor Bob Dasilva said. "Each day when you walk into your firehouse you do it not knowing what your tour will bring.

"The sacrifice you make is not only willing to give your life to save someone else, sacrifice is also spending time away from your loved ones, from your family on holidays, missing your children's first steps or first words, not being able to attend your child’s soccer games or school events," Dasilva added. "Being a firefighter is not an 8 to 4 job, it’s a 24/7 job."

Quick's promotion to chief was part of the ceremony that included Michael O'Melia and Theodore H. Hopkins III promoted to battalion chief, Scott Weber, Joseph A. DaSilva and Douglas Danville promoted to captain, Joseph Donato IV, Adam L. Christina, Daniel J. Pion and Joseph W. Burns promoted to lieutenant and Joseph D. Horn being named the first rescue lieutenant.

"These are the individuals right here who have the boots on the grounds, who are riding the rigs and working calls on the streets," Quick said. "They save lives every day."
