East Providence Murder Suspect James Stevens Due in Court Today

Stevens is back in East Providence Police custody and will be arraigned later today, Lt. Raymond Blinn said.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI—Murder suspect James Stevens has arrived in Rhode Island and will be arraigned later today, according to police Lt. Raymond Blinn.

Stevens, 29, was arrested Dec. 28 in El Paso, Texas by U.S. Marshals. He had been "on the run" two weeks, police said.

"The Detective Division of the East Providence Police Department, in cooperation with the RI Division of the US Marshals, the RI Violent Fugitive Task Force, the RI Attorney General’s Office, and the FBI have been working collaboratively to locate Stevens," who was wanted for the murder of Jasper Williams.

Williams, 24, died Dec. 16 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was stabbed Dec. 10 on Warren Avenue.

Members of the East Providence Detective Division had been expected to travel to El Paso to continue the investigation with Texas authorities.
