East Providence Resident Receives Statewide Recognition for Excellence from LeadingAge RI

Federico Wins 2017 John Hedderson Award

Steve Federico, director of maintenance at Hallworth House, has been recognized for exceptional service with the 2017 John Hedderson Award by LeadingAge RI.

Federico was singled out among all the employees of LeadingAge RI organizations for his unwaivering commitment to the seniors at Hallworth House. The recognition was revealed in front of her peers at the annual LeadingAge Annual Trade Show and luncheon on March 22.

In nominating Federico, Administrator Stephanie Igoe wrote, “Steve consistently demonstrates the characteristics of a dynamic and caring employee….[Steve] is committed to our mission and to improving the quality of life of our residents. He is a genuine and caring person who gives 100 percent to those who live at Hallworth House. He routinely practices and teaches his staff (through his own example) that ‘the residents don’t live were we work, rather we work in their home.’ “

“In addition to doing stellar maintenance work, Steve takes the time to provide comfort, companionship and true friendship to our residents, sharing a coffee, or spending his lunch break with a resident if they’re having a particularly bad day. He also volunteers to take the residents on outings. Last year he took them to a PawSox game and also to LaSalette Shrine over the holiday season. Because of this devotion to the residents of Hallworth House, they know him well and trust him implicitly to care for their well-being," Igoe concluded.

Recognized for his professionalism, dedication to his position and positive attitude, Federico became the 14th recipient of the John Hedderson Award for Employee Excellence. The annual honor was established by LeadingAge RI in memory of a beloved administrator at the Villa at St. Antoine who was a dynamic, caring individual who dedicated his life to the residents and staff and was committed to improving residents’ quality of life by nurturing a strong sense of community and a positive outlook.
