EP Police Log: Suspect Blames Mom

An East Providence man was arrested this week on drug possession charges after he reportedly emptied his pockets on his mothers kitch table, leaving behind a baggie filled with cocaine.

Joshua Robert Rocha, 22, of 153 Second St., was charged with two counts of possession of narcotics and resisting arrest after police were called to his mother's home pn calls of a combative man. Rocha's mother called to report he was "high as a kite" and causing a disturbance in the home where two smal children live.

After officers arrived and began interviewing Rocha, the suspect continually stood up and attempted to confront his mother, according to reports. His mom reportedly responded by handing officers the baggie containing a white powdery substance and two blue pills. The substances allegedly tested positive for cocaine and oxycodone.

Rocha's mother told officers her son came home about 2 a.m. and, after arguing with his mother, emptied the contents of his pockets onto the kitchen table infornt of her and Rocha's sister. He reportedly left the baggie, a digital camera, $20 in loose change and a GPS device on the table before going to lie down. Rocha's sister told police he does not have a car.

After officers walked Rocha outside, he reportedly became more combative, and when they attempted to cuff him, he ran. After giving chace and warning him several times to stop, officers shot him in the back with a Tazer, sending him crumpling to the ground where he was arrested.

Rocha reportedly denied the charges against him, telling officers, "I didn't do anything. The coke isn't mine. It belongs to my mom."

Other arrests:

Sheree M. Lebonte, 39, of 850 Warren Ave., Apt. 307, was charged with disorderly conduct.

Eric R. Thomas, 25, of 69 Vineyard Ave., was charged with possession of narcotics and obstructing an officer.

Stephanie Goncalves Pimentel, 25, of 6 Eighth St., was chared with domestic simple assault.

Daniel John Nesbit, 35, of 24 Goldsmith Ave., was charged with domestic simple assault, disorderly conduct and violating a restraining order.

Robert Francis Souza, Jr., 47, of 40 Dyer Ave., was charged with disorderly conduct.

Marlena Dorothy Ferrell, 23, of 40 Charles St., was charged with domestic vandalism and domestic disorderly conduct.
