Cause of Triple Decker Fire Remains Hazy

East Providence Fire Department personnel are still investigating the cause of a fire that on Thursday afternoon.

According to Captain Oscar Elmasian, a basement fire was first reported but as firefighters began searching the house for trapped occupants, they encountered a large fire on the second landing and moderate smoke on the lowest levels.

"Before we got there it was throughout the whole [building]," he said.

The city's building inspector is working with fire department personnel to investigate the cause, said the captain.
