Former North Providence Schools Chief Charged With Embezzlement
Police say Bridget Morisseau used a school department credit card for personal purchases, which was funded by taxpayer money.

NORTH PROVIDENCE, RI — The former superintendent of North Providence schools is facing felony charges after police said she fraudulently used taxpayer money. Bridget Morisseau is accused of using her school department credit card for personal spending.
Police say the discrepancies were first brought to their attention in July 2018, following an internal audit into allegations of Morisseau's embezzlement. The results of the audit were sent to the police in September, and a formal investigation began.
The investigation was conducted by North Providence police detectives, the attorney general's public integrity unit and the state police financial crime unit.

Morisseau is set to be arraigned in Third District Court Tuesday, and police say further charges could come as the investigation continues.
"I applaud the dedicated work of the entire investigative team, particularly that of the lead investigator, Detective Cote for his tenacity on this financial crimes case resulting in criminal charges being levied against a public official," North Providence Police Chief David Tikoian said in a release. "Working together with the Attorney General’s Office and the Rhode Island State Police on this investigation is a fine example of the collaboration that exist in the Rhode Island law enforcement community."
