John D. Ankner, Retired E.P. Firefighter

John Ankner, 66, died on Monday, Dec. 3.

John D. Ankner, of Narragansett and Englewood, Florida, and a former East Providence fire department lieutenant, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012.  He was 66.

He was the husband of Rhoda (DiCenzo) Ankner. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John P. and Margaret (McCann) Ankner.  

He retired as a Lieutenant from the East Providence Fire Department after 30 years of service.  He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the American Legion, Elks, and Point Judith Yacht Club and a former member of the Rumford Lions. He was an alumnus of Rhode Island Junior College.  

Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Gina Ankner and Julie Kaberry and her husband, Kevin; two grandchildren, Charlie John and Cadence; one sister, Shannon Cowen and her husband, David; two nieces, Kelly Ribeiro and Kathy Bailey, and one nephew, Michael Duarte.

His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9 am from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Holy Day Mass for the repose of his soul at 10 am in St. Margaret’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford.

Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are today, Friday, Dec. 7, from 4 to 8 pm.
