Man, 20, Charged With Domestic Strangulation
A verbal altercation Monday morning allegedly ended up with an East Providence man attempted to strangle his girlfriend under a blanket.

An East Providence man, 28, faces a domestic felony assault charge after he reportedly attempted to strangle his girlfriend.
Gabriel Estrela, of 3099 Pawtuck Ave., was charged by East Providence police on Monday morning, Jan. 28, after a reported fight over money. He wanted some of his paycheck, according to the arrest report. His girlfriend refused to give him the cash.
A verbal altercation apparently turned into a physical struggle that involved Estrela becoming violent and tossing around furniture, according to the arrest report. Police responded about 9:45 am.

His girlfriend ended up on top of her bed during the fight, where he allegedly used a blanket to cover her head and try to strangle her. She also alleged that he tried to gouge her eyes, police said.
Estrela was arraigned at the police station on the felony assault charge. He was released with a court date.
