Man, 23, Faces Sexual Assault, Kidnapping, Drug Charges

East Providence police charge Joseph R. Dourado after he allegedly raped a friend and would not allow her to leave his bedroom, which contained drugs.

An East Providence man, 23, faces sexual assault, kidnapping and drug charges after he allegedly forced a Barrington woman, 23, to have sex with him and refused to let her out of his room last Thursday, Nov. 1.

Joseph R. Dourado, of 187 Hatton St., allegedly raped the woman and then would not allow her to leave his bedroom in the Evergreen Apartments while threatening to keep her locked up there for a week, according to East Providence police.

The woman repeatedly asked to go home, police said, but Dourado allegedly would not allow her to leave while forcing himself on her several times.

The woman also reportedly observed Dourado, a friend’s ex-boyfriend, also deal drugs while they visited a nightclub earlier that evening, according to the police. She went out with him, police said, because she has known him for seven years. She reportedly identified where he stashed the drugs in his bedroom.

Dourado faces charges of sexual assault in the first degree, kidnapping, marijuana possession, and manufacturing and delivering Schedule 1 drugs – cocaine and amphetamines, according to East Providence police. Drugs worth around $1,700 were seized from him, according to the arrest report.

Dourado was taken to District Court to face the charges.
