A Bristol man, 22, faces charges of assault and resisting arrest after he punched an East Providence police officer last Saturday night, Oct. 6.

Henrique Dos Santos, of Elizabeth Street, believed to be inebriated, got into a fight with his brother at the Mobil on The Run convenience store on the Wampanoag Trail, according to East Providence police. His brother apparently would not allow him to drive the vehicle they were traveling in together.

Police officers approached the two men about 11:44 pm and stopped him from fighting with his brother. But Dos Santos apparently lost control after one of the officers grabbed his arm to stop him from walking away. The confrontation escalated into Dos Santos’s assault on the police officer.
