Myron J. Francis Students Celebrate Reading Week
Students at the elementary school in Rumford focused on sports as a theme for this year's Reading Week.

What's your favorite thing to write about? And have you ever interviewed a famous athlete or singer?
Those were some of the questions third graders in Deborah Brun's class at posed to a visiting reporter.
The visit was part of this year's Reading Week. This year, the school focused on sports.

Students also heard from Steve Krasner, a retired sports writer and author, who coached them on the skill of writing, Brun said.
And they learned that the fundamentals of writing they're learning — the importance of outlining their ideas and rewriting their work — are skills they'll use for the rest of their lives.

Students also sorted through a table full of books and each got to choose one as part of the "Books Are Wings" program, which started in East Providence.
And they wound the week up with Spirit Day, when students wore their favorite team or Little League jersey and were scheduled to get a visit from retired professional baseball player Ken Ryan.
