📰 News we're reading

1. Fall Book Sale at Weaver Library Oct. 23 and 24, 2026 (eastbayri.com) — East Providence readers can stock up on low-cost books, movies, and music at the Friends of the East Providence Public Library's Fall Book Sale at Weaver Library on October 23 and 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thousands of sorted items, most priced at $1 or less, will benefit the local library and can be purchased with Venmo, cash, or check.

2. What's the most expensive property sold in RI? Sep. 19 real estate transactions (providencejournal.com) — Several East Providence properties, including major commercial sites on Pawtucket Avenue and Narragansett Park Drive, recently sold for more than $4 million, alongside dozens of local home sales across city neighborhoods. These transactions, part of a statewide roundup through early September, give residents a clear snapshot of current prices, investor interest, and how the local real estate market is moving.

3. West Nile Virus Turns Up In 4 More Rhode Island Towns (patch.com) — West Nile virus has been detected in mosquito samples from East Providence, keeping Rhode Island's overall risk level at "high." State environmental and health officials say samples collected September 8 tested positive, and they're urging residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites since there's no vaccine and some infections can cause fever and other symptoms.

4. East Providence football sends D-II warning with rout at Westerly (providencejournal.com) — East Providence High's football team just dominated Westerly 44-7, giving local fans a strong early-season statement and momentum heading into next week's matchup with South Kingstown. Behind four rushing touchdowns from Isaac Rodriguez and a stingy defense, the Townies controlled the game from start to finish and showcased a potent option offense.

5. Foster terminates Flock camera contract, joining four other R.I. towns (browndailyherald.com) — Rhode Island towns are rethinking Flock license plate cameras, and an East Providence resident's federal lawsuit over an alleged wrongful arrest is central to the debate. Local and state officials are reviewing privacy, data retention, and misuse concerns while the governor has paused new camera installations as they consider uniform standards for the technology's future use.
