📰 News we're reading

• Former East Providence officer denied detail duty for 'inappropriate' behavior (eastbayri.com) — East Providence officials have denied former city police officer Paul Rodrigues' bid to return as a civilian detail officer, citing past hiring controversy, a 2022 incident at his home, and a recent body‑camera video of "inappropriate" comments during an investigation. Rodrigues, who served the city for decades, calls the decision unfair and a "character assassination," pressing councilors for clearer answers on his status.

• East Providence neighborhood plagued by influx of rats (wpri.com) — Residents near Grassy Plain Road and Ormond Drive in East Providence are battling an unusual surge of large rats, with one homeowner trapping more than 100 in a year. Mayor Bob DaSilva says construction and other environmental changes may be factors and is urging neighbors to report sightings through the city's online portal so inspectors can better target the problem.
