Pointed Finger Leads to Assault Charge

A Riverside man, 55, pointed his finger one too many times at an East Providence patrol officer last week after he complained about being harassed by another man.

Edward D. Borges Jr., of 243 Crescent View Ave., reported to police on Wednesday evening, Feb. 6, that another man he verbally fought with earlier in the night was harassing him.  He ended the evening facing disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault charges.

Borges kept pointing his finger at an officer who asked him to lower his arm several times, according to the arrest record. He refused each time.

The faceoff eventually resulted in a tussle between Borges and the police officer, with both of them ending up on the kitchen floor, where Borges was handcuffed.

The arrest report indicates that Borges may have been intoxicated. A witness said he had four beers and three mixed drinks before police responded to his complaint.

Borges was transported to the station to be arraigned. He was released with a District Court date to face the multiple charges.
