Police Chief Says Summer Accidents Increase Demand for Blood Donations

Donate until 3 p.m. at the East Providence Senior Center parking lot today.

The R.I. Blood Center is hosting a drive at the parking lot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday. According to Police Chief Joseph Tavares, the need for donors is great due to an increased rate of accidents and lack of routine suppliers.

"Not only is the demand for blood is high, but people are on vacation," the chief said, adding he will be one of the donors. "It's an effort to get people to make the time."

This is the third year the police department has hosted the drive. He recommends that people come to the site hydrated.
