Police Release Name of Washington Bridge Jumper
A rescue boat brought Nacholi Demello to land at 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 1.

A rescue boat pulled an intoxicated Nacholi Demello, 23, of Dartmouth, MA, out of the Seekonk River, after he allegedly jumped off the Washington Bridge at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 1, according to .
Police say he's lucky to be alive. According to Lt. Craig Fornier, some people have jumped off the bridge located near I-195 in prior years, a dangerous move due to the infostructure's height. The bridge is held up by cement pillars.
"Landing on those would be deterimental to your heath," Lt. Fornier said.

The rescue boat maintained by the East Providence Fire Department was reportedly deployed after the Demello's friend flagged down East Providence police officer located on First Street.
He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for minor injuries after the jump. Police are still unsure why Demello took the leap.

"We don't know the exact reasoning for it," Lt. Forner said.
