New England Patriots Playoffs 2019: Opponents, Schedule, More

The Patriots' road to Super Bowl LIII starts the weekend of Jan. 13. Here are their potential opponents, when the Super Bowl is, and more

One of the most trying regular seasons of the Patriots dynasty ended much like the best of them have: a playoff bye week and at least one guaranteed home game. It's a familiar position for a team that played at times inconsistent football amidst rumors of a crumbling era.

The Patriots finished the regular season 11-5 after waxing the New York Jets, 38-3, Sunday at Gillette Stadium. New England clinched the No. 2 seed, which assures the team of its ninth straight season with a bye week in the playoffs.

The No. 2 seed also guarantees the Patriots a home game on Sunday, Jan. 13 in the AFC Divisional round game. That game is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. New England will play either the Houston Texans, Los Angeles Chargers or Baltimore Ravens, depending on what happens next weekend.

The Patriots beat the Texans, 27-20, in Foxborough to open the season. New England has not faced Baltimore or Los Angeles this season.

The Patriots have ample playoff history against all three teams during the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick era.

  • New England scrubbed Houston in the 2013 and 2017 Divisional round games;
  • Edged the Chargers in the 2007 Division round game and 2008 AFC Championship Game;
  • And lost to Baltimore in the 2010 AFC Wild Card game and 2013 AFC Championship Game while beating the Ravens in the 2012 AFC Championship Game and 2015 Divisional round game.

If the Patriots win Divisional round weekend, they play in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 20, at 6:40 p.m. on CBS. That game would either be in Kansas City if the top-seeded Chiefs advance, or in Gillette Stadium.

The Super Bowl will be Sunday, Feb. 3, in Atlanta. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
