Three New Exhibitions to Open at Providence Art Club This Sunday

Four Local Artists To Be Featured in Shows at The Historic Art Club

The Galleries of the historic Providence Art Club will open a new exhibitions featuring the work of four local artists with Opening Receptions on Sunday, September 27 from 2-4pm. Light refreshments will be served and the artists will be on hand to discuss their work. The shows on view will feature diverse works in the media of drawing, painting, and photography. All three shows focus on the themes of process, inspiration, and how the two can develop over time.

In the Maxwell Mays Gallery painter Joan McConaghy and photographer Don Gregory will exhibit together in the show titled “Inspirations” and will both exhibit artworks with themes and motifs drawn from nature. Ms. McConaghy holds a BA, BS, and MA from Rhode Island College and also studied in the School of Education at Boston University. In addition to the Providence Art Club She is a member of the Wickford Art Association and the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative. Ms. McConaghy maintains a studio in the historic Deacon Taylor House at the Art Club. Mr. Gregory holds a JD and is a practicing attorney and photographer who focuses on landscape and natural themes. He was accepted to the Providence Art Club as an exhibiting artist member two years ago, and recently featured large scale photographs in the Club’s exhibition space at One Financial Plaza.

In the newly renamed Mary Castelnovo Gallery (formerly the Moitié Gallery), Anthony Tomaselli will have a solo show titled “Process: Draw to Paint”. Mr. Tomaselli is a graduate of Rhode Island College and owner of the popular T’s Restaurants franchises. He currently paints in the historic Fleurs de Lys Studio Building at 7 Thomas Street. His exhibition will focus on his process and feature both paintings and the studies that preceded them.

In the Dodge House Gallery, longtime Art Club figure drawing instructor Don Paulhus Sr. will have a solo show of figure drawings in pastel from the many years he instructed fellow Club members in the subject. Mr. Paulhus joined the Art Club in 1958 and was a popular teacher at the Club for decades. His solo show will focus on figure drawings culled from his years of classroom drawings.

The Galleries of the Providence Art Club are always free and open to the public. All are welcome!
