UPDATE: Officer on Leave After Motorcycle Accident

Patrolman Greggory Tainsh has been hospitalized after a car hit his motorcycle.

East Providence Patrolman Greggory Tainsh is facing leg surgery after a car attempted to cross onto Pawtucket Avenue and .

According to Chief Joseph Tavares, the officer will be on leave from the until he undergoes rehabilitation for his injuries. 

"He did suffer a leg injury," he said on Monday afternoon. "The good news is he's a strong guy. He has a a lot of spirit and support, [police officers] have been there throughout the weekend."

The accident report has yet to be released, said the chief. He is unsure if the driver will face charges or citations. He said members of the department handled the situation with efficiency even though the accident was emotional for crews.

Tainsh is assigned to the traffic division of the department and has extensive experience assessing driver sobriety. He has been with the department for nine years, said the chief.
