Video Shows Dramatic Rescue of Dog from Icy Waters in East Providence

"Gizmo" was saved after falling through ice in the area of Bullock Cove Tuesday morning.

East Providence firefighters saved a dog that fell into icy waters Tuesday morning.

WHDH reported the ”Gizmo” escaped from her home and was walking on ice in the area of Bullock Cove when it fell through.

A neighbor saw the dog and called for help. Firefighters responded and pulled the dog to safety.

“I didn’t think he was going to make it,” the neighbor, Sharon Luoma, told WHDH.

Said the firefighter who rescued the dog, “The dog saw me coming up to it, calmed down, kind of almost came over to me. I kind of gave it a hug, he rested a paw on my shoulder and rested his head against mine,” according to WHDH.

The dog was treated for hypothermia and a few cuts at Riverside Animal Hospital. She was expected to be released back to her owner.
