"We have your back" program launched. Chiropractic Society of Rhode Island volunteer for RI walk-a-thons and road races.
"We have your back" program offers free chiropractic treatment for sports events.

Hundreds of walk-a-thons and road races take place in the Ocean State each year. The Chiropractic Society of Rhode Island has announced a “We have your back” program to offer one of their over 60 chiropractic physician members to provide free chiropractic treatment at the end of an event and to assist with any health fair that might be associated with the event.
Dr. Clive W. Bridgham, most recent past president of the Chiropractic Society of Rhode Island, and director of the Barrington Chiropractic & Sports Medicine Clinic heads up the sporting event volunteer program for the organization. He brings over twenty-five years of national and international experience at events such as the X-Games, World Games, and the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, to diagnose, treat, and manage sports conditions. He has been recently selected by the Rio de Janeiro Olympic committee to assist the health services team as a chiropractic physician.
“I’ve previously volunteered my services for athletic events throughout the world and locally in Rhode Island. We want to formalize chiropractic outreach to the athletic community by launching a Volunteer ‘We have your back’ program that proactively offers free support and healthcare services for running and walking events,” noted Dr. Bridgham.

Dr. Michael Gottfried, current president of the Chiropractic Society of Rhode Island and a member of the staff of Aquidneck Chiropractic, added, “Chiropractors have been working with weekend warrior and professional athletes for many, many years. The ‘We have your back’ program helps streamline the process to connect with as many walk-a-thon organizers and race directors as possible. Many professional and elite athletes already travel with a chiropractor as part of their team. We want to offer that service to a much wider audience of amateurs and emerging athletes.”
Chiropractors are trained in muscle and spine work and are among the best manual therapists for preventing injury and optimizing performance.

Major causes of improper alignment include running or walking in the same direction on the same course every day; running or walking on slanted surfaces, such as a beach; and not replacing shoes every few hundred miles. Chiropractors can help with relieving the stress of workouts and help properly align the body.
Chiropractic can be used for injury prevention because it emphasizes proper alignment of the spine and pelvis. The most common running and walking-related injuries are plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, IT Band Syndrome, patella (knee) tracking problems and hip bursitis.
