What is Overpopulation?

When people think about overpopulation, they don’t really understand what it means. As humans, we have to worry about things like food and jobs and we are always competing with each other for these things and many more. The United States isn’t in a severe situation of overpopulation but other countries are and it is just a matter of time before Americans are in the same situation.

China is in a really bad place right now because of the growing population. China’s population is at almost 1.4 billion people and is increasing substantially day by day. People in China struggle to find a nice place to live and they also struggle to find a place to work. There is a law in China that states couples can only have one child. They use this as a way to control the population because the streets are just simply too crowded to the point where there is no privacy what so ever. But, how would Americans feel if they were told that they could only have one child? Some say that this is against their freedom as citizens of the United States. Others say that this wouldn’t affect them because they either just want one child or they don’t want children at all. Either way, this will be an issue for Americans so therefore, we would need to find other ways to save the country from becoming overpopulated like China.
There are many things to think about when it comes to overpopulation. People tend to think about what causes it in the first place. Factors like more births, better medications, immigrants, and simply people just living longer are the main causes for the increase in population. Things like these are really hard to prevent and are in fact practically impossible because they are things you can’t control. The issue is that all of these people need a place to live and a job and frankly there is just not enough to go around. Natural resources are also another issue because the more people use them, the faster they disappear and once they are gone, you can’t get them back. Many Americans dismiss the thoughts of overpopulation or they choose not to think about it because it is not an immediate issue. However, it is possible for the U.S. to become overpopulated and resources to become scarce.
In reality, there are many solutions that can be done to prevent or at least prolong this from happening. For example, people can simply grow some of their own food. This will help to produce more food and to ensure that families can become self-sustained. Also, more and more jobs are being created so therefore, more people will be employed. There also organizations that help to save the environment. For example, Greenpeace, Seed for Life, Save the Bay, and many more. Even though these organizations help to better the country, the fear is that it is simply not enough. Overall, the United States could become overpopulated in the years going forward and it is up to us as humans to protect this planet and everything in it.
