Suspected Hopkinton Overdose Death Leads To 2 Arrests: Cops (patch.com) — Hopkinton police are investigating a suspected overdose death on Old Hopkinton Cemetery Road that led to the arrest of two brothers after a controlled fentanyl purchase. Officers say the operation, assisted by Westerly detectives, uncovered additional narcotics and distribution materials, and both men now face multiple drug and related charges following their scheduled arraignments. 
2. Hopkinton Halts Brushy Brook Clearing With Cease-And-Desist (upriseri.com) — Hopkinton neighbors say tree clearing on the 358-acre Brushy Brook property started before conditions were met, leading town staff to issue a cease-and-desist order. Residents pressed the Town Council about enforcement, zoning "floating zones," and a developer's tactics, while officials largely listened during public comment. Questions about road work tied to the same company are slated for a September 3 council discussion.
3. A cigarette butt, covert surveillance, and DNA analysis: How R.I. investigators say they solved a 2005 cold case (bostonglobe.com) — Hopkinton residents are learning that a 2005 Main Street sexual assault case has led to an arrest after new DNA analysis allegedly linked a Woonsocket man to the crime. Investigators say a discarded cigarette butt matched DNA collected from the victim, and the Hopkinton police chief called it a good day for the town. Officials hope the breakthrough encourages other cold-case victims statewide.
4. Chariho OKs Support Staff Contract, Tables Graduation Rules (upriseri.com) — Families in Hopkinton's Chariho district will see a new three-year contract for education support staff, a clearer standalone cell phone policy, and a fresh review of proposed graduation rule changes.
