Toss The Pallino: Johnston Senior Center's bocce court is scheduled to be open today at 9:30 a.m. New members are welcome — and if you don't want to play, you can cheer on the center's team, which is scheduled to host a tournament against Pocasset Bay Manor on August 12.
Get Cooking Tips: Today's farmer's market at Johnston Memorial Park features a cooking demonstration co-hosted by the University of Rhode Island Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach Project. Hours are 4 to 6 p.m.

People Are Strange: On this date in 1970, Doors frontman Jim Morrison went on trial for "lewd and lascivious behavior" after allegedly exposing his, uh, "lizard" at a concert the year before. Morrison later moved to France, where he died in 1971. In 2010, outgoing Florida Gov. Charlie Crist granted Morrison a posthumous pardon for the offense.
