Baby Beaten: Child Survives But Johnston Father Charged with Child Abuse

Police say 4-month old suffered seven fractures on both legs and abdominal injuries to his pancreas.

JOHNSTON, RI— A 4-month- old Johnston baby was treated at Hasbro Children's Hospital for broken bones and "abdominal trauma," consistent with child abuse, according to Deputy Chief Daniel Parrillo.

The police were called to the hospital at 9 p.m. Monday night. A doctor in the child abuse unit and a state child protective investigator asked officers to investigate.

According to police, the child came in "lethargic, sleepy, and had significant swelling to both legs," Deputy Chief Parrillo said. "After being examined thoroughly, he was found to have a total of seven fractures to both of his legs and some blunt abdominal trauma causing injury to his pancreas. According to the doctor the injuries appeared to be consistent with child abuse."
