Boys' Co-Op Hockey Squad Heads Into Game 2 Of Finals Today

The Johnston-North Providence Cougars are one win away from a state championship.

Today at noon, the Johnston-North Providence Cougars, the high school co-op hockey squad representing the two towns, are scheduled to play Game 2 of the state Division III finals against Mt. Hope. With a win, the Cougars would secure the state championship.

On March 17, the Cougars and Huskies played a physical game and remained scoreless through the first and most of the second period before JNP netted a pair of goals in 46 seconds. Junior forward John Rappa chipped in a rebound with just over 7:30 left in the game to secure the 3-0 victory.

In the accompanying video, the coaches of both teams discuss the March 17 contest β€” and JNP Coach Fred Morrisson talks about what a championship would mean for both towns.
