A Curious Thing

A curious thing has been happening to me lately. I am not exactly sure of when I began noticing this, but I am sure that it is definitely not my imagination!

A curious thing has been happening to me lately. I am not exactly sure of when I began noticing this, but I am sure that it is definitely not my imagination!  Anyone over the age of 40 will probably be able to relate.

It just happens that this is the time of year when most of my yearly doctor's appointments are scheduled. So, I have spent the past couple of weeks going to various medical provider's offices for check ups.

First, I went to my primary care doctor where I was examined by my almost 30 year old physician's assistant. Her name is Jen — and she is great! Really smart. . .knowledgeable. . . and seeming too young to know all that she does!

Then on May 20, I went for a podiatry appointment with a new doctor that I have never met before. The waiting room was full of people who were actually all older than I am. A nice, middle-aged nurse escorted me to an examination room, where I sat and waited for the doctor to come in.  Moments later - following a tap on the door, in walks my podiatrist. . . my very young and handsome foot doctor! Grrreat! I would have touched my lipstick up in the car before coming in, had I known that my doctor was going to step off the set of Grey's Anatomy to examine me!

This is what I want to know: since when have most of the people who take care of my health become Doogie Howsers? Energetic, intelligent, attractive, YOUNG people! I realize, too, that most people under 40 may not even know who Doogie Howser is. . . which just drives the point home, even more painfully! I guess it should be comforting on some level.

Since I tend to be a "the cup is half full" type of person, after giving this some thought, I've decided that this isn't necessarily a bad thing.  After all, when I am 80 years old, I may not want a 125-year-old doctor taking care of me.
