Join the Johnston Senior Center for a "Pot Luck" session to learn more about an upcoming new Volunteer Program initiative called TimeBank. The "Pot Luck" information session will take place at 4 p.m. at the Senior Center on Jan. 11th. Dinner will be served promptly at 4 p.m. so arrive early if you can.
The TimeBank program is an initiative of the RI Department of Elderly Affairs (DEA), along with The Point (RI's Adult and Disability Resource Center), the Parent Support Network of Rhode Island located in Johnston, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence and the RI Lifespan Respite Coalition, including RI’s Health and Human Services Agencies. Simply put, Time Banking is about someone spending an hour helping somebody in his or her community and then "banking" that hour as a "Time Dollar." This volunteer will then have one "Time Dollar" to spend on having someone help them with something.
According to the TimeBanks USA website, (www.timebanks.org) "With Time Banking, you will be working with a small group of committed individuals who are joined together for a common good. It connects you to the best in people because it creates a system that connects unmet needs with untapped resources."
