Great Escapes: Dinner And...

Each week, JohnstonPatch offers a list of "No Kids Allowed" destinations.

After working all day and shoveling snow all night, you need a well-deserved break. This weekend's culinary destinations feature from all over the world, located right here in Johnston and nearby towns.

  • has a dinner for two special which includes two entrees, your choice of soup or salad, dessert, and a bottle of wine for $32.99.
  • offers both Korean and Japanese meals in a casual atmosphere.
  • The (formerly Player's Pub on Atwood Avenue) offers burgers, sandwiches, finger foods, and a large selection of craft beers. On Thursday, you can also enjoy the open mic comedy night. It's also the official grand opening, which is just one more reason to celebrate.
  • If you're in the mood for Mexican food, is the place. Besides great food, you can also enjoy karaoke while you dine.
  • Ri Ra Irish Pub in Providence offers a mix of traditional Irish food and American favorites with and Irish influence. You can also enjoy live bands on weekend nights while enjoying dinner.

Once you've finished dinner, you have two choices: you can head home and watch reruns, or stay out and have some fun. Here are some suggestions to keep you busy:

  • On Friday, 94HJY presents Hinder and Saving Abel at Lupo's. The show is at 8:30pm, and tickets are $25 ($30 the day of the show).
  • For the sports fans out there, the Providence Bruins will be playing the Springfield Falcons at the Dunk. The puck drops at 7pm, and tickets start at $18.
  • If you just can't get enough of the Dunkin Donuts Center, the arena will be hosting an indoor auto racing event called "The Coffee Cup" (I kid you not). The races start at 7pm, and tickets start at $20.
  • For the animal lovers out there, the Rhode Island Convention Center will host the 18th annual RI Pet Show and TICA Cat Show.  The event will take place this Friday and Saturday from 11am to 6pm. Tickets are $8.

Another weekend, another full calendar. Have a great time, and check back every Thursday at 10 a.m. for more suggestions.
