Greening Your Cleaning: Go Green Cleaners
A locally-owned natural dry cleaner pioneers a healthier way to get laundry brighter, whiter and odor-free.
Karen Roman knows her dirt. She also knows that the traditional way of dry cleaning is harmful and has been linked to numerous health problems.
Her family has been long involved with green business, most recently with natural dry-cleaning. Their previous business, Natural Dry Cleaners, was sold in order to create , a full-service, natural "wet-cleaner" plant.
Go Green Cleaners, located at 1478 Atwood Ave., has been the only non-toxic, wet-cleaner plant in the state since its founding in August of 2009.

The wet cleaning process is chemical-free, leaves absolutely no waste, and leaves clothes cleaner, brighter and free of odors. Keeping perchlorethylene, a traditional agent used in dry-cleaning, out of our lives was a big concern for Go Green Cleaner, Roman explained.
“Unlike perc, (wet-cleaning) is harmless to the people, it’s harmless to the skin and environment. It is not linked to any kind of disease and is overall a better way to clean your clothes,” Roman said.. “The machine is a very sophisticated. It is not the same as home washing machine. It has very specific settings for temperature, spin, steam and water levels. It allows us to clean any type of fabric."

Roman noted that there are other types of green cleaners that do not use chemical agents — but she cautioned that they are not as effective at removing stains and restoring clothes to their best condition.
“Because we do not have disposal needs, we can keep our prices inexpensive; we offer discounts for service professionals and have same-day service because we do everything in-house,” shared Roman.
There are several cleaners in the state that outsource their work to Go Green Cleaner because they produce consistent quality and have a strong attention to detail, specifically in targeting stain removal.
“We are hoping to reach out to the community and let them know there is a better, greener and safer way to get your garments cleaned,” Roman said.
