JHS Sports: Five Road Wins for Panthers, Softball Squad Wins First

In five games since Apr. 12, the varsity baseball squad outscored its opponents 45-15; the Lady Panthers eked out a 12-11 decision over Mt. Hope for their first win of the season.

The varsity baseball team remained tied for first in Division II North with Woonsocket after the Panthers notched three decisive wins on the road during April vacation, and five straight victories dating back to Apr. 12.

In the five match-ups, Johnston outscored its opponents, 45-15, including their 8-2 win on Apr. 17 over Woonsocket β€” which dropped the Villa Novans from their previous undefeated record, the Johnston Sun Rise reported β€”Β  and followed up on Wednesday with a 7-4 victory over Davies Technical and on Friday with a 12-1 pummeling of Central High School.

The Panthers wrapped their five-game road trip with a 12-3 win against Wheeler School on Monday night, and are next scheduled to play this afternoon at 4 pm, hosting Juanita Sanchez Complex at .

Lady Panthers Score First Win

After starting the season with three losses on the road, the varsity softball squad scored five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 12-11 win over Mt. Hope at home on Tuesday night, the Providence Journal reported.

Junior starter Amanda Columbo limited the Lady Huskies to one run over the final three innings to give the offense β€” led by Kurstyn McDougall's two runs and Lauren Barnes's three hits β€” an opening to secure the victory.

The Lady Panthers (1-2 in Division II Central) are scheduled to travel to Moses Brown for a 3:45 pm contest on Thursday afternoon.
