Johnston RI Gas Station Crash: Two Have Died

Rhode Island State Police are investigating an accident that led to a fire at a Sunoco station on Route 6 on Tuesday afternoon.

JOHNSTON, RI — State police Wednesday confirmed two people have died after an explosion and fire at a Hartford Avenue gas station. Three others were badly injured.

According to Rhode Island State Police, troopers from the Scituate Barracks responded to a motor vehicle crash involving three vehicles at the intersection of Route 6 and Bishop Hill Road around 4:10 p.m.

"Two people were transported with life-threatening injuries," state police said, and "two others were transported with serious injuries."

Two passengers have since died, and the driver remains hospitalized. All are teenagers.

Johnston Police, Johnston Fire and Rescue, Cranston Fire and Rescue, as well as the State Fire Marshal's Office responded to the scene.

State Police are asking anyone who saw the accident to contact them.
