Johnston Man Charged With Drug, Gun Possession: State Police

State Police seized hundreds of fentanyl pills, nearly 20 pounds of marijuana, a pistol and shotgun in raid of Sanderson Road residence.

JOHNSTON, RI — A pistol and shotgun with ammunition, 238 pills containing Fentanyl and 19 pounds of marijuana were seized in Johnston Wednesday when the State Police High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force raided a Sanderson Road residence Wednesday. State Police charged Taylor Rego, 24, with four counts of drug possession with intent to deliver and two firearms charges.

State Police said, in addition to the pills containing fentanyl and marijuana, they found 39 mature marijuana plants, 22 marijuana seedlings, $2,000 in U.S. currency, a shotgun with ammunition and a 9mm pistol with ammunition when executing a search warrant.

Rego was charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana in excess of 5 kilograms of marijuana, possession with intent to deliver between one ounce and one kilogram of fentanyl, as well as schedule I and II narcotics charges.

Rego was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks, and arraigned at Third Division District Court, where he was held without bail.

Any person found guilty of possession of one ounce to one kilo of fentanyl may be imprisoned for 50 years and fined up to $500,000. Any person found guilty of possession of one kilo to five kilos of marijuana upon conviction may be imprisoned for 50 years and fined up to $500,000. Any person found guilty of delivery/possession with intent to deliver and manufacture a schedule I or II controlled substance may be imprisoned for 30 years, or fined up to $100,000.
