Johnston Patch Meets: Joseph Golomboski, Chairman, Johnston Tea Party
The chairman of the Johnston Tea Party sits down for an interview.

If you're looking for a town that is right-of-center, Johnston probably won't come to mind. It is by no means a bastion of conservatism, but if a few dedicated individuals get their way, those on the right will have a way to meet like-minded citizens, and possibly act as a vehicle for change.
The Johnston Tea Party has been in existence for almost a year and boasts nearly 20 members.
It's run by 22 year-old Joseph Golomboski, who said he sees the Johnston Tea Party as a way of getting more local residents involved in the political process.
"Trying to get people actively involved has been a problem," said Golomboski. "One of my goals is to give another voice to the town."
Though there are many who disagree with some of the views espoused by the Tea Party, Golomboski thinks change is on the horizon.
"The state has always been one party, one way, but people are finally starting to wake up," explained Golomboski.
As for Johnston, Golomboski said he thinks things are okay, but could be better.
"Last year's budget was decent," he said. "It wasn't the greatest thing, but it was decent."
As for a recent ordinance to create a retirement board which would review disability pensions, Golomboski isn't impressed. He feels union members need to contribute more to their pensions.
"They appointed a board, but it doesn't really focus on the issue," said Golomboski.
As for his own political career, Golomboski explained is in no hurry.
"I'm not focused on being a candidate until school is done," Golomboski explained. "I'd rather help candidates who are ready to go, or help citizens who have been wanting to run. I want to get more involved with town and school committee meetings and local issues, getting members involved."
If you would like to get more involved, the Johnston Tea Party holds meeting on the last Thursday of every month.
