Johnston Rec 5th & 6th Grade B-Ball Title Goes To Blue Devils
The team, coached by Police Deputy Chief David DeCesare, outlasts the Huskies, 29-28, for the win.

On March 5, the 5th and 6th grade girls' basketball championship went to the Duke Blue Devils, coached by Johnston Police Deputy Chief David DeCesare, Jeff Fryer and David Raposa.
One of four teams in the division who are named after college basketball squads, the Blue Devils faced the UConn Huskies, coached by Arthur Moretti, in the finals match-up at Rainone Gym.
UConn entered the game with the fewest losses and an All-Star in Jordan Moretti, the coach's daughter.

After a winter session developing their skills and playing each team in the division round-robin style, DeCesare said the finals game was a much-anticipated meeting.
"The game was what you would expect a championship game to
be — a back-and-forth contest that came down to the last shot," DeCesare recalled.

The teams traded points, until, with the final shot of the game, the Blue Devils secured the win by a score of 29-28.
"Even though the score indicates that one team scored more points than the other, there really were no losers in this game," said DeCesare.
