Jr. LL Squad One Step Closer To Finals

Johnston's 13- to 14-year-old All Star team held off a late rally by Quincy MA for the 11-8 victory on August 10.

James Picchi went 4-for-4 and scored 4 runs to lead Johnston in its 11-8 victory over Quincy, MA on August 10 at the Junior Little League Eastern Regional tournament in Freehold Township, NJ.

Johnston (3-1) led the game, 11-2, going into the bottom of the sixth and held off a Quincy four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory.

Jacob Podmaska (5.1 IP, 4 runs, 4 walks, 4 K) earned the win for Johnston, which also had six players with two hits each on offense.  Gian Martellini and Zach Coro each posted 3 RBI with Korey Fijal (2-for-4) adding two of his own.

With the loss, Quincy (2-2) was eliminated from the tournament.

Johnston, two-time Rhode Island state champions, now await the loser of today's 4 p.m. match-up between Pennridge, PA, and undefeated Brandywine, DE, for a 7 p.m. consolation game, according to the tournament bracket online.

The winner of the Pennridge-Brandywine game would then face the victor of tonight's game in the finals, scheduled for August 11 at 11 a.m.

A second finals game, if needed, is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow.

At the time of publication of this article, 4:30 p.m., Brandywine had taken a 4-0 lead against Pennridge in the bottom of the first inning.
