Lady Panthers Score Home Playoff Win
The Johnston High School girls' varsity basketball team fought back from a nine-point deficit at the half to beat West Warwick, 60-56, on Feb. 29.
Outside the gym on Feb. 29, the weather may have been cold and wintry, but the Lady Panthers heated up in the second half, recovering from a nine-point deficit against West Warwick to win their Division II preliminary playoff game, 60-56.
Karina Mattera, who's been a steady presence on offense all year for Johnston, dropped 23 points includng two 3-pointers, and Isabella DiRaimo posted 16 of Johnston's 34 second-half points, adding four three-bombs en route to the postseason victory, the Providence Journal reported.
Johnston, the fourth-ranked team out of Division II North, is next scheduled to play D-II South top seed Rogers High School on Saturday night at 7 p.m. St. Mary Academy/Bay View in East Providence.
