Lady Spartans Earn Apple Fest Title

Scituate secured a 4-0 win over Johnston on Sept. 24.

Four different players scored for visiting Scituate during the non-league Soccer Tournament on Sept. 24, securing a 4-0 win and earning a place on the tournament plaque, which was presented to the team on Sept. 25.

The Spartans played with a ton of intensity and moved the ball well in the midfield. Scituate controlled the pace of the game and dominated possession throughout.

About 15 minutes into the game, Scituate junior Lydia Sibley buried home her opportunity on the breakaway.

Only five minutes later, the Lady Spartans would add to their lead thanks to a mishandled ball by Johnston's keeper, Ariana Caffeso, who left the cage to field a pass.

The ball went through her legs, though, and Spartans junior Tayla Ferranti put home a wide-open shot, giving Scituate a 2-0 lead.

Throughout the game Scituate played at a quicker pace than Johnston, which kept Johnston off-balance, and the Spartans capitalized on their opportunities.

With about 10 minutes left in the first half, sophomore Katherine Entwistle expanded the lead to 3-0, and Talia Pino added a goal in the second half to give the Ladt Spartans the win.

"We have a lot of speed up front with my forwards," Scituate head coach, Robert Parmenter said. "Controlling the midfield tonight was great, because it allowed us to feed them and take advantage of their speed."

With the win, Scituate improves to 1-5-1 in Division I. Johnston's record dropped to 2-4-1 in D-III.

"It was nice to get a victory because we had been struggling this year," Parmenter added.
