No Beach Passes for Sale in Johnston

The state Department of Environmental Management announced that season passes will only be available at state beaches this year.

Three state-run beaches in Washington County opened last weekend, with several more set to open over the next few weeks — but if you're looking to buy a beach pass at the office in Johnston, you're out of luck.

In a statement on its website, DEM states that season passes will be available at Scarborough North, Roger Wheeler, and Misquamicut state beaches on weekends only until Memorial Day — but not at the Hartford Avenue office.

Last May, the local DEM office in advance of an increase in fees approved by Gov. Lincoln Chafee.

The 2012 rates for beach passes are:

  • Day rates: $10 weekdays/$14 weekends and holidays for RI residents, $20/$28 for non-residents;
  • Season passes: $60 residents, $120 for nonresidents;
  • Senior (65-plus) rates: $5 weekdays/$7 weekends for residents, $10/$14 for nonresidents; $30 for season pass for residents, $60 for nonresidents.

All state beaches will open daily after Memorial Day, the DEM reported.
