Nominations Sought For 2012 JHS Athletic Hall of Fame

Following up on its inaugural year — which saw 138 Johnston High School graduates inducted — the JHS Athletic Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for the 2012 induction class, Athletic Director Gary Mazzie announced in a press release.

Mazzie also released the criteria for induction:

Athletes:

1. Athletes must graduate from Johnston High School (exceptions may be made for students from other schools who play their entire high school career for Johnston High).
2. First Team All-State is an automatic qualifier, as long as citizenship does not eliminate the candidate.
3. Citizenship at Johnston High School is the primary consideration; however, subsequent developments may impact the status of the nominee.
4. Open nominations will be solicited.
5. Non-athletes may be considered, especially if they made significant contributions to the Athletic Program at JHS.
6. There will be an automatic waiting period of five (5) years, after a student’s graduation, before he/she may be considered for induction.
7. Consideration will also be given for the following achievements:
   a. Second Team All-State
   b. Selection for All-League
   c. Participation in multiple sports
   d. Other noteworthy awards or achievements
8. The athlete’s entire body of work will be reviewed and discussed by the committee.

Coaches:

1. Recognition(s) as “Coach of the Year” by Coaches Associations or League
2. State Championship(s)
3. Longevity
4. Contributions to the Athletic Department & the school
5. Other awards or achievements

Nominations will be accepted through Jan. 31, 2012. Anyone wishing to nominate an athlete should submit a completed nomination form (a .pdf copy of the form is attached to this article), along with documentation of the nominee's credentials, to:
