Panthers Improve To #13 In State Poll

The Johnston High School football squad benefits from a 3-0 record, but stays mid-pack because of weak competition.

's varsity football team advanced two spots to #13 in the Rhode Island Sports Media Football Poll, a ranking determined by 12 sports reporters from various media outlets.

While the Panthers are 3-0 following last week's , they've compiled the record against teams who are 0-8 overall, which has hurt their overall standing in the poll, according to NarragansettPatch Local Editor Steve Greenwell, a voting member of the poll group.

On Sept. 30, Johnston is scheduled to travel to , the 7th-ranked team in the poll (up from 8th last week), which could improve the Panthers' ranking if they can score a decisive victory.
