Pell Tenants Enjoy 'It’s Still May' Breakfast
The Johnston Housing Authority held its annual May breakfast on May 31, complete with installation of new officers for the Pell Manor Residents Association and two state legislative grants.
Residents of Pell Manor sat down for the traditional May breakfast this
year — on the very last day of May.
Joined by Mayor Joseph Polisena, state Sen. Frank Lombardo and Rep. Stephen Ucci, Executive Director David M. aRusso,
Town Councilwoman Eileen Fuoco, School Committee Member Robert Lafazia, the leadership team of the Forand Tenant’s Association, and members of the staff of the JHA, the crowd of more than 50 residents and friends dined on a full menu of breakfast favorites at Pell Manor.

The weather cooperated with bright sunshine, and the morning held some pomp — and some surprises, as well.
Mayor Polisena formally installed into office the new leadership team at Pell, headed by William Santilli, President; Joe Lancellotti, Vice President; Martha Church, Treasurer; and Anna Murphy, Secretary.
After swearing in the team, the Mayor acknowledged how vital an active tenant’s association is to the residents and the community at large.

“I know you will do a good job for the residents at Pell. Your dedication to the people here is wonderful," said the Mayor. "Keep up the good
work!”
Association President Bill Santilli also recognized the importance of the group by explaining: “This breakfast is evidence of the vitality an association can bring to its members. We have many events planned, and look forward to working together with the JHA, the Forand Tenant’s Association, and our town to make our golden years filled with fun.”
But it was Rep. Stephen Ucci and Sen. Frank Lombardo who put the "syrup on the pancakes!"
Each came to breakfast bearing $1,000 legislative grants to benefit the association. Ucci, who recalled spending time as a child at Pell Manor, beamed as he presented a check to Santilli.
“My grandmother was one of the first residents at Pell, and I have fond childhood memories of this place," Ucci recalled. "It gives me great pleasure to present this grant to the association.”
Lombardo, too, presented a Senate grant to Santilli, saying: “I know the association will do wonderful things for the seniors here at Pell with this funding. Congratulations!”
aRusso thanked everyone, in particular the local elected officials for the continued support they give to the JHA.
“We are very fortunate to have supportive leaders in Johnston who recognize the value of public housing and through their service honor our elderly residents," aRusso explained.
